It’s good to see Spiritual Rez is kicking it right now in 2010. The world may be as disconnected as it ever was. Newspapers are full of news about dropping stock prices, foreclosure, war and budget crisis. Where is the happieness?

Reggae has always kind of stepped in to be the driving force behind making sense of a world gone mad. I dig this about reggae. I appreciate this about the artists who create this wonderful feel good music that delivers a message that everything is going to be alright.

But, you know what has always killed me about reggae? Please, Don’t get me wrong. I definitely dig it. But, I have always been a huge sucker for big time riff changes, cosmic guitar changes and plain ol’ changing up the tempo and beat quite a bit, if not a whole, whole lot. I am sort of Pixies, Frank Black and the Catholics kind of guy. However, I hold a special little place in my heart for reggae and its wholesome, fresh goodness.

Spiritual Rez delivers a diversity of sound and groove that so many bands ska/reggae/funk bands lack. Big, beautiful beats surrounded by cruising lyrics, sky-high horn ballads, driving guitar and all that other sweet stuff satisfy the mind.

It’s nice to have a band like Spiritual Rez on the scene. Rock it steady and keep the masses heady. Check them out online at their website and go see em’ live.

New England rocks and Soundcentury knows this good. Hell, that is why I put this damn thing together in the first place and why I am sitting here right now on a perfectly fine, windy, fall day in northern Maine writing about some reggae band from Boston.</itunes:summary>

When you are traveling down an interstate going 70 mph, with two surfboards on your roof, and a bike hanging off your trunk, you are generally thinking about two things. The first thing is how long it is going to take you to get to where you are going and the second is how cool it going to be to ride your boards and peddle your bike.

It is not until you look into your rearview mirror to witness your freshly tuned mountain bike floundering around on the hard pavement that you begin to seriously consider a third thing. Motherfu…..!!! and a couple more harsh ol’ words. My bike is screwed.

My bike took a hard tumble for sure, but lucky for me, no vehicles behind me to ground it up into further bike mince-metal. I just collected it on up, threw it on the back of the car again, much more secured of course, and was happy that my boards were all nice and secure. Thankfully, the waves were sweet and the water was pretty warm for Maine.

So, after a long day of riding waves, I popped into Roses, our local bike shop here in Orono, Maine, and had them do a little damage assessment. Pretty much all you can do. Well, just afterwards, I ran into Anthony Ambrosino from the local band Mudseason and he was all smiles.

You see, Mudseason has been booked at the Nateva Festival taking place in Maine this July 4th weekend. Mudseason has been rocking central Maine for quite some time now, laying down a beautiful blend of jam-folky-funk-rock to a growing base of fans.

They are extremely excited about playing Nateva Festival on Sunday, and will have some special guest musicians joining them onstage, including Les Rhoda on the Sax. Check them out on this Soundcentury podcast and if you dig what you hear, keep an eye out for this band who have absolutely no plans on staying at home. Go see em’ live.

MMoss is like a long lost 1960’s musical experiment that was left in an old dusty suitcase in the back corner of a dark basement. The latches on that old suitcase are pried open and handled with care and love by the Dover, New Hampshire based band.

Swirling, earthy psychedelia is unpacked out of this suitcase very carefully, making sure that each note is emphasized at just the right moment. This is the kind of music that makes you want to close your eyes and dream and just get lost. It will take you for a ride wherever you want to ride. Just let go.

But, what is that colorful looking shiny thing on that suitcase? It’s a sticker. It says, “fuck-off…were not a 1960’s throwback band!” And, they are not indeed.

MMoss has got their own groove going and unlike lot’s of 1960’s garage band short numbers full of fuzzy, dark droned out sobs, these guys from the White Mountains of New Hampshire infuse tight, bright elements of folk, jazz and blues into their songs.

Oh yeah…and it’s 2010 and these cats are playing right now. In fact, they just recorded this album over the last couple months. Take a listen, you won’t believe that this just came out. Exciting, exploratory rock and roll has returned with MMoss.

Visit the MMOSS website, check out some upcoming shows in May and buy their album for what you believe it is worth right here.

The other night I was walking down a dark, cold street late at night and down around the bend I could hear something dark and mysterious coming from an alleyway. I had drank a few beers and I was ready to dance…I entered an unknown, loud drinking establishment.

The doors of sound have been ripped off the hinges by Electric Sorcery who routinely electrify Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. Towns like Lyndonville, East Burke and East Granville are regularly woken out of their slumber by the by the wicked sound of this power trio.

If you walked into one of their local haunts and you missed the fact they are playing, you are either wearing too thick a wool hat, or you drank way too many beers. They are the kind of band you either dance really hard to, or just stare at in disbelief.

Sounds from far away depths are excavated and thrown around in cosmic swirls weighed down by heavy, dark psychedelia. This is not your momma’s music. In fact, it’s no ones music but Electric Sorcery. They fire branded it on your ass.

Electric Sorcery features: Derek Campbell on guitar, vocals, harmonica, fife and theremin. Michah Carbonneau on drums and vocals. Nathanael Reynolds on bass. Who knew that three people could create such incredible sounds?

Check them out and a whole bunch of other equally interesting projects that I can’t wait to explore further at Lyndon Underground. Visit Electric Sorcery on Myspace

Buy Electric Sorcery albums right here. They take donations, but if you are a hoser, and want killer music for free, you can download it at no cost. Just tell your hoser friends about it.

<itunes:subtitle>Electric Sorcery from Vermont's Northeast Kingdom New England Rock and Roll</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>The doors of sound have been ripped off the hinges by Electric Sorcery who routinely electrify Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. Towns like Lyndonville, East Burke and East Granville are regularly woken out of their slumber by the by the wicked sound of this power trio.
