There is no question that we need a lot of energy to sustain the growing world population. The big unknown at this point is how we are going to do it. I understand that nuclear power reduces carbon emissions compared to gas, oil, coal and other finite, high carbon energies, but to say it is safe… Are you kidding me?

Case in point is the current crisis in Japan. Nuclear provides a lot of energy for relatively little monetary costs, but you have to keep in mind that this is some seriously dangerous stuff.

Do we really want our planet covered in nuclear power plants? That does not sound like a very safe world to me. Would you want a nuclear power plant in your neighborhood? If you do, well, I think your crazy, but in my opinion most people don’t want to raise their children around something this dangerous for the sake of energy.

So, if we blow nuclear out of the picture, that leaves us with ever dwindling supplies of finite resources like coal, natural gas and oil. These suck, cause wars and are not going to keep us going for long especially at prices the average consumer can afford.

The answer, in my opinion, is to focus on local renewable energy plans. The days of everyone sucking off one major source of energy must end. In today’s world we need lots of small, renewable energy sources powering individual communities.

The technology is already there and it is getting better everyday. It is a very exciting time in this regard. Check out the Key World Energy Statistics from the IEA. It contains current data on the supply, transformation and consumption of all major energy sources. It paints a very clear picture of where our world’s energy needs are headed.

Bring on the renewable energy revolution. Look at what happened in the Gulf of Mexico this past summer. Look what is happening in Japan right now. Is there even a question of what we should do?

A couple links to some videos

Here is the new logo that hopefully will remain as the permanent logo for Soundcentury.

Other news…Soundcentury is now primarily focused with the New England Music Scene. Why not? It rocks and I live in Maine. I spent years photographing bands in Vermont and many of these bands will be featured in upcoming podcasts and again, New England rocks. Plus, it’s a big world. There is a shit load of bands out there, and to even attempt to try and stay on top of that is just not happening at the moment.

I am ciked to get down with New England bands in future podcasts. Truly looking foreword to it actually, and it gives this project some focus which is cool. So, thanks to all those subscribed to the podcast. I will do my best to keep delivering a podcast on a weekly basis, and try to keep you all up to date on emerging alternative energy companies that are going to explode in the coming years.

Oh, and I recently upgraded my audio equipment, and so the podcasts are going to be sounding a lot smoother. Thanks for hanging in there for all that annoying feedback that kept happening. Expect future shows to be much better sounding.

I will leave you with a little live Frank Zappa from 1976 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. This funky track is Dirty Love.
