It seems like just yesterday that fans of Phish were listening to classic cuts from live shows wondering when the band was going to get back out there on the live scene where they consistently tear it up like no other.

Well, those days are over and Phish is back on it sounding as tight as they ever did. I was lucky enough to catch quite a few shows in 1997, and have been yearning to sit down and put together a little remix intended on capturing the sound of the band at this time. I finally found some time last night and had a great time putting this mix together, while reminiscing of the great times had at these shows. Perhaps, those of you who were there with me in the audience will dig this as well.

The summer tour of 2010 is nearly upon us and tickets to these shows are out there, but often sold at outrageously marked up prices through corporate ticket resellers. This is great for the hosers who scoop up tickets just to resell them at ridiculous profits, but truly sucks for music fans who just want to go and enjoy a great rock and roll experience by one of the countries greatest bands.

Two brothers from Vermont who run a tight little web design firm, Simplenation, and who also happen to be long time Phish fans, saw this as a problem that needed to be addressed. So, last year, they sat down and with their many years of web design expertise, put together a great website where fans could reach out to one another and sell and trade tickets at the market price the band intended.

CashorTrade.org is a hub of sorts for fans of Phish to score hard to find tickets at a fair price. The website provides an interactive platform where registered users can post tickets for sale or trade, or post what shows they are trying to get tickets to.

The Phish community has embraced this “fair-trade” oriented website and currently there are close to 5,000 registered users who keep the daily forums active and full of ticket opportunities.

According to their website, “If you’re like us, you love the music, but dislike the ticket hassle. Whether you have supported the band for 15 years, or your a first time listener, your chances of obtaining a ticket can be extremely difficult and discouraging when sifting through the online scalpers. Either way we are all in this together.”

Visit cashortrade.org to find your Phish ticket!

This Soundcentury Podcast is available through I-Tunes and features: The Sound Stylistics – Heavy Soul – Phish – selected songs remixed from 1997/1998.

Here is a little mix I threw together today after getting excited for the Free Range Music Festival in Belfast, Maine. I suppose that the name “Spring Jam” is probably not all that fitting for this mix. It’s kind of all over the place and full of all types of songs. Many of the songs are heavy and when I think of spring, I generally think of light, happy music. But, nonetheless, spring is on the way and its what I am calling it.

In no particular order this mix contains: The Corral, Stone Roses, Fort Knox Five, Rain Parade, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Imperial Drag, Greyboy Allstars, Velvet Underground, AC/DC, Frank Black, Steppenwolf, the Soup Dragons, Free Energy, Van Halen…

Like all the podcasts published here on soundcentury, it is available through I-Tunes.

Hope you enjoy it…

Here is the new logo that hopefully will remain as the permanent logo for Soundcentury.

Other news…Soundcentury is now primarily focused with the New England Music Scene. Why not? It rocks and I live in Maine. I spent years photographing bands in Vermont and many of these bands will be featured in upcoming podcasts and again, New England rocks. Plus, it’s a big world. There is a shit load of bands out there, and to even attempt to try and stay on top of that is just not happening at the moment.

I am ciked to get down with New England bands in future podcasts. Truly looking foreword to it actually, and it gives this project some focus which is cool. So, thanks to all those subscribed to the podcast. I will do my best to keep delivering a podcast on a weekly basis, and try to keep you all up to date on emerging alternative energy companies that are going to explode in the coming years.

Oh, and I recently upgraded my audio equipment, and so the podcasts are going to be sounding a lot smoother. Thanks for hanging in there for all that annoying feedback that kept happening. Expect future shows to be much better sounding.

I will leave you with a little live Frank Zappa from 1976 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. This funky track is Dirty Love.
